Dr. Shi Xue-min

Throughout the world, Dr. Shi Xue-min is known as the “Father of Acupuncture.”

The Eastern Medicine Center is fortunate enough to have an established relationship with Dr. Shi that spans over many years. The renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor has made significant contributions to medicine over his 50-year career. As one of the few professionals who withstood the Chinese Revolution, Dr. Shi went on to establish the world’s largest acupuncture and teaching hospital, The First Teaching Hospital University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Tianjin, China. The hospital has over 2,000 inpatient beds and treats more than 10,000 patients daily.

Dr. Shi is perhaps best known for his stroke rehabilitation acupuncture technique Xing Nao Kai Qiao (XNKQ). Xing Nao Kai Qiao translated as “activating the brain and opening the orifices” incorporates Dr. Shi’s quantitative needle manipulation technique. XNKQ is a result of 40 years of research. Dr. Shi and his team were featured in the documentary 9,000 Needles that followed Devin Dearth and his journey with TCM following his stroke.

Dr. Shi has regarded Dr. Jing Liu as “The Masters of the Masters” after working with her as mentor and professional colleague. Dr. Shi is also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a supervisor of doctoral candidates in China.

Dr. Shi often recommends medical students to MBA programs and recruits a large number of graduates to his hospital.

He is the author of more than 100 books, 30 theses and 12 major works. For more information on Dr. Shi’s acupuncture technique or to make an appointment with a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor at Eastern Medicine Center, call (480) 451-8880 today.
